THE DHAMMACAKKA FESTIVAL 2010 (ESALA CELEBRATION) on Sunday, 25th July 2010
The Dhammacakka (Esala) Festival marks the preaching of the First Sermon known as The Wheel of Truth (Dhammacakka Sutta) by the Buddha, in the Deer Park at Isipatana, near Benares, India. This event will be celebrated at the London Buddhist Vihara on Sunday 25th July 2010, and the programme will be as follows:

9.00 a.m. Hoisting the Buddhist Flag 9.10 Administering Eight Precepts and Admonition, by Ven. B. Seelawimala Nayaka Thera, Head of the Vihara and Sangha Nayaka of Great Britain. Buddha Vandana (Homage to the Buddha) & chanting led by Ven. T. Bandula. 9.30 Meditation - Instruction and practice by Ven. Susara 10.00 Tea will be served 10.15 "The Wheel of the Dhamma is Set in Motion" by Ven. T. Bandula. 11.00 Buddhapuja 11.30 Dana to Venerable Monks, Upasakas and Upasikas observing Eight Precepts. 1.00 p.m “The Living Gem - Sangha” by Ven. K. Ariyaratana 2.00 "Selfless and Emptiness" by Mr. Anil Goonewardene. Barrister, Teacher & Council member of The Buddhist Society. 3.00 Tea will be served 3.30 "The Role of Right Understanding in the Middle Way" by Ven. B. Seelawimala Nayaka Thera. 4.30 Sermon in Sinhala by Ven. Pandith W. Wimalajothi. 5.30 Vas – aradhana - On this occasion, a formal invitation to observe the rainy retreat will be extended by devotees in the traditional manner to the venerable monks. 5.45 Chanting the Dhammacakka Sutta (The First Sermon of the Buddha) followed by Punyanumodana (sharing of merit).
