New Year Message - Year 2022.

The year 2021 is about to draw to a close, so now that we find ourselves on the threshold of 2022, it is time to reflect on what has passed and, at the same time, have hope for the New year.

The year 2021 was like a journey at night in a rough ride, on an uneven road. Sadly, some of our fellow travellers became victims - we are still not at the journeys end as we all still live with lots of fear and anxiety and uncertainty.

Together we have one most important hope, which is none other than ‘May the world be free from the threat of Covid.’ But this year of uncertainty and confinement meant there was a chance for us all to practice the Dhamma. Gradually we became accustomed to new ways of communication, using electronic media for learning and practice; it is the way to respond positively to the pandemic. We must be determined to use all these facilities for our spiritual well -being.

While spending more time at home, mediation, chanting and listening to the Dhamma has become a part of our day-to-day life and provides comfort and relief from miserable feelings. Lots of our people learn and practice the Dhamma more than before during this worldwide pandemic.

Regarding the issue of Covid, His Holiness the Dalai Lama said, ‘This crisis shows us that we are not separate from one another - even when we are living apart. Therefore, we all have a responsibility to exercise compassion and help.’  Also when we develop metta, all other great qualities enhance our hearts and mind; “May I be free from this dreadful disease, may my parents, my children, brothers, sisters, my spouse my friends, may all beings be freed from this pandemic disease.” With Metta Bhavana we can all develop healing powers. Let us share our spiritual healing powers with each other. This is truly a very positive humanitarian spirit to wish others well-being, especially during the remainder of the pandemic period.

We have had some good experiences in 2021, so now let us learn lessons and step into a new year with more and more awareness and responsibility for your well-being.

We monks at the Vihara with trustees wish you a very happy new year with good health, happiness and protection from all dangers, throughout the year to come.

With Metta
