The 155th Birthday of Anagarika Dharmapala, the founder of the London Buddhist Vihara and the 93rd anniversary of the London Buddhist Vihara was celebrated on 14th & 15 September 2019.
The memorial lecture 'The Relevance of Jataka Stories for the Modern Society' was delivered by Dr Sarah Shaw, lecturer of Buddhist Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Oxford.

This was followed by the unveiling of the portrait of Mary Robinson Foster by the Sri Lankan High Commissioner, Her Excellency Manisha Gunesekera. Mary Foster was the benefactress of Anagarika Dharmapala which enabled him to carry out his activities of revival of Buddhism and dhammaduta work, which included the establishment of the London Buddhist Vihara in 1926.

30 monks from several Buddhist temples took part in parrita chanting which went on untill midnight. The following morning dana was offered to the Sangha followed by transfer of merit to Anagarika Dharmapala, all the monks and devotees who helped the Vihara.
