Anagarika Dharmapala's Birthday Commemoration
To commemorate the 156th birthday of Anagarika Dharmapala, the founder of the London Buddhist Vihara and 94th anniversary of the London Buddhist Vihara, a short programme was held at the Vihara on 19 September 2020.
Due to the restrictions imposed by the Coronavirus pandemic, dayakas and supporters of the Vihara could not be accommodated this time, therefore the event was live streamed on Facebook.
The programme commenced at 3pm with the garlanding of the bust of Anagarika Dharmapala at the lobby.
A video of 150th birthday celebrations held at the Hammersmith Town Hall was shown, followed by a message from the Sri Lanka High Commissioner, HE Saroja Sirisena.
The Memorial Lecture was given by the Most Venerable Bogoda Seelawimala Nayake Thero, the head of the Vihara, entitled ‘Short Reflection on Footsteps of the Journey of Anagarika Dharmapala’
Buddha puja and chanting of Karaniya Metta Sutta was followed by transferring of merit by the practice of pouring water.
The days event was concluded by a dhamma talk by Ven Kalugamuwe Kassapa, resident monk at the Vihara
