Buddha Day 2020 at the London Buddhist Vihara
The Buddha Day falls on the full moon day in May, and this year it was on Thursday 7 May.
This is a very special day when millions of Buddhists all over the world commemorate the birth, enlightenment and the passing away of Gotama Buddha.
This day was commemorated by the resident monks administering the Eight Precepts for those who wished to observe sila for the day, followed by sermons and concluding with the evening puja and chanting of paritta.
The main event was held at the Vihara on Sunday, 10 May 2020. The Vesak Day is the most popular day at the Vihara attended by over 500 devotees. Unfortunately, due to the current Coronavirus pandemic, the Vihara has been closed to the public and no gathering was possible.
However, with the use of electronic technology, the devotees were able to participate in the proceedings staying at home. The events were live streamed simultaneously on Vihara Facebook and You Tube.
The programme for the day and live streaming was organised by the resident monk Ven K Kassapa with technical backing from Mathew and Gamini. The Vihara is also thankful to Paula Gjesdal for sponsoring the live streaming..
