Puja  and Blessing Ceremony for HM King Charles III                              

A special puja  and a chanting ceremony was held at the London Buddhist Vihara on Friday 9 February 2024 at 7.00pm  to bestow blessings upon His Majesty King Charles III, to wish His Majesty a speedy recovery.

The Chief Guest was HE Mr Rohitha Bogollagama, the High Commissiner for Sri Lanka in the UK and Mrs Bogollagama.

The event was graced by several invited guests

Professor Sato of the Japanese Zen Tradition
Ms Ruth Cadbury – MP for Brentford and Isleworth
Mr Gary Malcolm – Councillor – Ealing Borough Council

The puja ceremony commenced with a welcome address by Ven Bogoda Seelawimala, Head of the London Buddhist Vihara and Chief Sangha Nayaka of Great Britain explaining  the significance of the puja ceremony according to Buddhist traditions and wished His Majesty a speedy recovery with the blessings of the triple gem.

Next, the special Buddha Puja was conducted by Ven Tawalama Bandula, Deputy Head of the London Buddhist Vihara.

Dr Desmond Biddulph read the English translation of the Karaniya Metta Sutta (Loving Kindness.)

It was followed by the traditional pirith chanting by the monks gathered to bestow blessings upon Her Majesty.

HE Mr Rohitha Bogollagama read the message from Hon Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka wishing His Majesty a speedy recovery on behalf of the people and the Government of Sri Lanka.

He stated the special relationship between the two countries, and he concluded wishing His Majesty well.

As the final item of the puja ceremony, Prof Sato conducted a prayer to confer blessings upon Her Majesty according to the Zen Buddhist tradition.

 In concluding the puja ceremony, Ven Tawalama Bandula Thera, gave the Vote of Thanks
